Well I did it. I can hardly believe that this (last?) year is over let alone that I kept at this project for a year. But here it is, (mostly) a photo a day for a whole leap year…
It’s quite something to be able to look back on a whole year of my life in this way. Some photos won’t mean very much to an outsider looking in but it’s probably the least remarkable photos that mean the most to me. I’ve never claimed to be a photographer, I’m just a girl with an iPhone permanently attached to my hand. This project was never meant to be about technical brilliance, it was meant to be a snapshot of my everyday life. It was completely self indulgent and I loved every moment of it.
I started out taking a photo every single day but on the least remarkable days (and let’s face it the reality is, that’s most days) I soon began to struggle. I quickly realised that if I was to succeed, then I needed to bend my own self imposed rules a little. So for the most part, I did take a photo for this project every single day. But on those days that I simply couldn’t choose just one picture, I would maybe post two. One in the bag so to speak for those most unremarkable of days. I don’t think I would have completed the project otherwise so I refuse to see it as cheating.
Will I do it again? Definitely. Just maybe not this year. I will carry on taking far too many photos though. I can’t see that ever ever changing. And if there is one thing that I can take away from this whole project? It has to be to never forget the small things. Every day may not be good but I do believe that there is something good in every day.
Thanks so much for keeping me company along the way!
